Objectified (Gary Hustwit)

Synopsis: Objectified is a feature-length documentary about our complex relationship with manufactured objects and, by extension, the people who design them. It’s a look at the creativity at work behind everything from toothbrushes to tech gadgets.

OKAY

It’s been a long time I want to see Objectified. Hustwit’s fist documentary film was Helevtica and I loved it. Industrial design was promising.

Unfortunately, even if it deserves to be seen, it has not the charm of Helvetica. The interview of Dieter Rams is fantastic. Surprisingly, Jonathan Ive’s one not so much and looks a lot like an Apple product presentation video. However, it’s really nice to hear people talk about their job with passion.

You don’t learn as much as in Helvetica and for some reason, the movie never really takes off.

Still, I recommend it for anyone who is interested in industrial design.
